BISNOK FESTIVAL

BISNOK FESTIVAL

The Bisnok Festival derives its name from two old Cebuano words: "Bisaya," meaning a native of the Visayas, and "Manok," meaning chicken. The fusion of these words gave rise to "Bisnok," symbolising a distinctive cultural identity rooted in the traditions, heritage, and culinary practices of the people of Dumanjug.

Celebrated through vibrant street dancing and captivating ritual performances, the festival artistically portrays the traditional preparation and cooking of the native chicken, locally known as Bisnok. Through colourful costumes, rhythmic music, and creative choreography, performers bring to life the community's way of living, showcasing the values of unity, hospitality, resilience, and gratitude that have long defined the Dumanjuganons. Each presentation reflects not only the significance of the native chicken as a local delicacy but also the rich customs, folklore, and cultural heritage that continue to shape the municipality's identity.

Held annually every 4th of October in honour of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of Dumanjug, the Bisnok Festival has become one of the municipality's most anticipated cultural celebrations. More than a festive event, it serves as a platform for preserving local traditions, promoting tourism, strengthening community pride, and sharing with visitors the vibrant culture and warm hospitality that make Dumanjug a truly unique destination.
